Coffee Catering in Somerville, MA
Owner-Operated | 5.0 ★ (50+) on Google | Services Start at $599 | Single-Estate Coffee
Few cities in Greater Boston take coffee more seriously than Somerville. Davis Square, Union Square, and the Inman-adjacent corridor are home to some of the most respected independent specialty cafes in the region, which means a coffee cart at a Somerville event has to clear a higher bar than it would in most places. Guests recognize good espresso when they taste it, and they notice when the syrups are bottled and the beans are commodity. Solarium is built for that audience.
Our espresso comes from George Howell Coffee Company, a Massachusetts roaster sourcing single-estate coffees from named farms around the world. Our syrups are made from scratch, including Halle's Morning, our oat milk vanilla, and a rotating seasonal menu. Every drink is made to order on a La Marzocco machine. That is the program we bring into Somerville, whether the event is a product launch at Assembly Row or a 60-person team morning at a Union Square office.
Ben and Halle run every event personally. There is no staffing agency, no scheduling coordinator, no barista you have not met. The people you communicate with during booking are the same people setting up your cart and pulling your espresso on event day. We are based in Framingham, about 25 minutes from Somerville via the Mass Pike or Route 2, and most events here fall inside our no-fee service zone.
Services start at $599, and a quote comes back in minutes. There is no third-party booking platform between you and the people who will be making your guests' coffee.
Our Most Popular Services in Somerville
Here are the most popular event types we book. If you don’t see yours here, check out all our services.
Wedding Coffee Cart Catering
Somerville has built one of the most distinctive wedding venue lineups in Greater Boston. Bow Market in Union Square, Aeronaut Brewing Company off Tyler Street, the Crystal Ballroom inside the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square, Warehouse XI, La Brasa, and The Row Hotel at Assembly Row all draw couples who want their wedding to feel like the city itself: independent, design-forward, and not interchangeable with a function hall in the next town over.
A specialty espresso bar fits that brief. A coffee cart at a wedding is interactive in a way that a coffee urn on a back table is not. Drinks are made to order, latte art is poured, and the menu offers something guests do not get at most receptions: a real cortado, an honey bergamot latte with raw honey and Angostura bitters, a popular seasonal drink built around our house-made syrups.
How couples in Somerville typically use Solarium:
Cocktail hour at receptions, as a non-alcoholic option that holds its own next to the bar
Late-night service to send guests home awake instead of wilted
Bridal brunches and post-wedding morning gatherings at venues or private homes
Rehearsal dinners at restaurant venues like Posto and Juliet
Ben and Halle work directly with you on menu, timing, and footprint. The cart needs a 6x6 ft area, a single 15-amp outlet, and ground-level access or a freight elevator. Decaf espresso is included at no charge for evening events. Bookings 4 to 8 weeks in advance are recommended for spring and fall weekends, which fill quickly.

Corporate Coffee Catering
Somerville's commercial identity is unlike anywhere else in Greater Boston. The Cambridge border carries some of the densest concentrations of biotech, software, and climate-tech companies in the country, including Greentown Labs, the largest cleantech incubator in North America. Inman-adjacent and Union Square office space has been absorbing startups pushed out of Kendall by rents. Tufts University extends into the Powderhouse and Ball Square neighborhoods. Assembly Row anchors a cluster of corporate offices alongside its retail and dining.
Teams in Somerville tend to skew younger, more design-aware, and more particular about coffee than the average corporate audience. A standard catering coffee setup reads as an afterthought here. A specialty espresso bar reads as a real gesture.
Corporate events Solarium is set up for:
Team appreciation mornings for engineering, sales, design, or research teams
Product launches and press events with custom branded cups or signature drinks
All-hands meetings, off-sites, and quarterly kickoffs
Investor breakfasts and client visits where the first impression matters
Board meetings and leadership offsites at hotels and meeting venues
Ben and Halle run every event personally. There is no scheduling coordinator, no sub-contracted staff. The people you communicate with during planning are the same people behind the bar on event day. For two-week advance bookings, we offer custom branded cups ($150) and full custom cart wrapping ($300) for product launches and brand-forward events.

Brand Activations and Retail Pop-Ups
Assembly Row, Bow Market, and the Union Square retail corridor make Somerville one of the most active brand activation markets in Greater Boston outside of Seaport. Bow Market alone hosts a rotating calendar of pop-ups, launches, and small-format events in a setting that draws an audience used to discovering new things.
A coffee cart at a brand activation does two things at once: it gives people a reason to stop, and it gives them a reason to stay. A made-to-order specialty drink takes about two minutes to pull, which is long enough for a real conversation with a brand rep without feeling forced.
What we do for brand activations in Somerville:
Custom cart wrapping in your colors and logo, with two weeks lead time ($300)
Custom cup branding with logo or campaign messaging, two weeks lead time ($150)
Custom signature drink development built around our house-made syrups, named for your brand or campaign ($100)
Full-day or multi-day service windows at trade shows, retail launches, and pop-up takeovers
Indoor or outdoor setup, with our own 12x12 ft tent and a generator available for outdoor activations without power
Halle leads the creative side of branded drink development. The conversation usually starts with what your brand is launching and ends with a drink your guests photograph and post about.

Private Celebrations at Home
A lot of private events happen in homes that are not built for catering logistics, but our cart's 6x6 ft service area footprint fits comfortably in most Somerville triple-deckers, condos, and yards in neighborhoods like Davis Square, Powderhouse, Spring Hill, Magoun, and Ball Square.
Common events Solarium serves in private residences:
Milestone birthdays for adults who have moved past sheet cake and want their party to feel grown
Bridal and baby showers as the centerpiece of a brunch
Housewarming gatherings in newly purchased condos
Anniversary parties and family reunions
Holiday open houses during the December stretch
Ben and Halle handle setup, service, and breakdown. We bring everything: water, cups and lids for hot and iced drinks, whole and oat milk, house-made syrups, and a trash bin. The host's only job during the event is being a guest at their own party.

How Booking Works
Step 1: Get Your Quote. Fill out the booking form with your event date, Somerville location, estimated guest count, and service window. Services start at $599, and most Somerville events fall within our no-fee zone. A custom quote comes back in minutes.
Step 2: Talk Through the Details. You speak directly with Ben or Halle. We walk through add-ons, the menu, logistics, parking, and venue access. Somerville venues vary widely, from converted warehouses to triple-decker yards to corporate lobbies, and we ask the right questions up front so there are no surprises on event day.
Step 3: Reserve Your Date. Your date is held once a booking agreement is signed and the deposit is received. Spring and fall wedding weekends, and the December corporate holiday stretch, both fill quickly in Greater Boston. Book early for those windows.
Step 4: We Handle the Rest. We arrive ahead of your guests, set up without disrupting the space, run clean and efficient service, and clear out completely. You will not have to manage us. Your guests will remember the coffee.
Pricing and Capacity
Solarium publishes pricing because clients deserve to know what something costs before they commit time to a quote form. Below is the standard structure for Somerville events.
1 barista, starting at $599. Approximately 50 drinks per hour. Best for events of 100 guests or under.
2 baristas, starting at $999. Approximately 100 drinks per hour. Best for larger weddings, conferences, and full-day brand activations of 150 to 350+ guests.
Hourly rate beyond 2 hours: $200 per barista-hour. Most events run 2 to 3 hours of service.
Add-ons: Custom cup branding ($150), custom signature drink ($100), custom cart branding ($300). Cold brew, matcha, chai, and drip coffee available on request.
Travel: No fee for most Somerville events. Outer-edge addresses or peak-hour timing may carry a small fee, which is shown clearly in your quote before you commit.
What shapes a quote:
Service duration (priced by the hour)
Guest count (helps us right-size to one or two baristas)
Location (travel fee, if any)
Add-ons (branding, custom drinks, additional menu items)
Tax and platform fees are not included in base pricing.

Frequently Asked Questions
If this is your first time booking a mobile coffee cart or maybe just looking for a different vendor, we have answered many of our most commonly asked questions below. If something is not covered here, Ben or Halle will respond to your message promptly.
Service & Setup
-
A 6x6 ft area and a single dedicated 15-amp outlet. That space covers the cart, a support table, and room for the baristas to work. We carry a 25 ft extension cord if the outlet is not right next to the setup area. We do not need plumbing or running water. For outdoor events, our 12x12 ft tent and generator are available as add-ons, which is useful at venues like Bow Market's outdoor courtyard or Assembly Row's plazas.
-
Yes. The cart is designed to fit Somerville's range of venue types, from industrial warehouse spaces like Warehouse XI and La Brasa to historic spaces like the Crystal Ballroom inside the Somerville Theatre, to brewery and market settings like Aeronaut and Bow Market, to hotel ballrooms like The Row Hotel at Assembly Row. We coordinate directly with the venue on load-in, parking, and timing, and we can provide a certificate of insurance to any venue that requires one.
-
Ben and Halle, always. Solarium does not use a staffing agency or a roster of contract baristas. The owners run every event personally. The people you communicate with during the booking process are the same people setting up your cart and pulling your espresso. This is the central thing that makes Solarium different from larger coffee catering operations in the Boston area.
Beverage Options & Customization
-
Single-estate espresso from George Howell Coffee Company, a Massachusetts roaster with national recognition for sourcing high-quality coffees from named farms. We currently feature their Montecarlos Medium from El Salvador. Our syrups are made from scratch, including Halle's Morning (oat milk vanilla, made with vanilla bean paste, organic cane sugar, and sea salt) and Cinnamon Sugar, plus a rotating seasonal menu. Matcha and chai are sourced from MEM TEA in Cambridge. None of this is from a bottle or a commercial syrup pump.
-
Yes to both. Whole milk and oat milk are standard at every event. Almond milk and other alternative milks are available with advance notice. Decaf espresso is available as an add-on, and is complimentary for evening events. We grind decaf fresh on a dedicated grinder so the cup tastes like real coffee, not a watered-down compromise.
Booking & Payment
-
No travel fee for most Somerville events. Somerville sits inside our standard service area, accessible from our Framingham home base via the Mass Pike to I-93 or via Route 2. There are no hidden surcharges added later.
-
Most Solarium events land between $900 and $1,200, with services starting at $599 for shorter, smaller events and scaling up for larger weddings, full-day corporate gatherings, and multi-day brand activations. The price is shaped by service duration, guest count, and any add-ons. A typical 2-hour, single-barista event for a Somerville office team or private home gathering falls in the $900 to $1,000 range. A 4-hour wedding with two baristas and custom signature drinks lands higher. The quote form gives a real number in minutes.
-
For spring and fall wedding weekends, 6 to 8 weeks ahead is a good target. For corporate weekday events and most off-peak weekends, 2 to 3 weeks of lead time is usually enough. The December corporate holiday stretch and graduation season at Tufts both fill quickly. If your event involves custom cup branding or custom cart wrapping, those add-ons require 2 weeks of lead time to print and prepare.
General
-
Yes, we serve all of Somerville. That includes Davis Square, Union Square, Assembly Row, Inman-adjacent, Powderhouse Square, Ball Square, Magoun Square, Spring Hill, Winter Hill, East Somerville, and Teele Square. Each neighborhood has its own venue and parking realities, and Ben and Halle ask the right questions during the booking conversation so we show up prepared rather than improvising.
-
Two things. First, Ben and Halle run every event personally, with no staffing agency in the middle. The people you book with are the people who show up. Second, the coffee program is genuinely specialty-grade: single-origin espresso from George Howell Coffee Company and syrups made from scratch, not bottled syrups and commodity beans. Most coffee cart operations in the Boston area use one or the other of those shortcuts, and many use both. Solarium uses neither. In a city like Somerville, where guests can already taste the difference, that matters.
